The Tibet Autonomous Region is located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau at the southwesternmost tip of China 4,000 meters above sea level at an average. Tibet is known as the Roof of the World because there are over 50 peaks more than 7,000 meters above sea level. Tibet is the birthplace of the Tibetan people. In the seventh century, King Songtsen Gampo united Tibet and founded the Turpan Regime. Tibet is charming for its beautiful and spectacular landscape, the unique folklore, and the brilliant culture, which have drawn numerous visitors from around the world.
The province of Sichuan lies in central-western China and is one of the country’s major industrial bases. The territory of the province and its vicinity were the cradle of unique local civilizations, which can be dated to at least 15th century BC. The area lies in the Sichuan basin and is surrounded by the Himalaya to the west, Qinling range to the north, and mountainous areas of Yunnan to the south. The Yangtze River flows through the basin and thus is upstream to areas of eastern China. The Minjiang River in central Sichuan is a tributary of the upper Yangtze River, which it joins at Yibin. The majority of population is Han Chinese, who are found scattered throughout the province. Significant minorities of Tibetans, Yi, Qiang and Naxi reside in the western portion, which is a part of historic Tibet's Kham region.
Located at the edge of the southeast Qinghai – Tibet Plateau in western China, Gantse Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture covers eighteen counties including Kangding, Danba, Luding, Jiulong, Daofu, Luhuo, Seda, Gantse, Baiyu, Xinlong, Dege, Serxu, Yajiang, Litang, Daocheng, Xiangcheng, Derong, Batang. This wide area is generally called Kham Tibetan region. Kham Tibetan region is situated at the transition zone of Qinghai - Tibet Plateau and Sichuan Basin. It has a complete climate spectrum and a complex topography, which forms the particular sceneries of mountainous, lakes, glaciers, rivers, biology and climates. There are simple, unspoiled but colorful Tibetan cultures, and many Tibetan Buddhism Monasteries. These humanism sceneries also have high sightseeing values.
Yunnan is a province of great diversity. Surrounded by Tibet, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Guizhou, Guanxi and Sichuan and with almost a third of its population belonging to one of 25 different minority groups, the colorful cultural mix is fascinating and contrasting influences are seen everywhere. Geography is varied with tropical forests in the south in Xishuangbanna and snowy peaks along the northern Tibetan border. Forest covered mountains and sparkling lakes in fertile plains make for staggering scenery. An amazing array of fruit, vegetables and flowers are grown in Yunnan all year round.
The province of Qinghai is named after the enormous Qinghai Lake. It is located on the northeastern part of the Tibetan Plateau. It borders Gansu in the northeast, the Xinjiang Autonomous Region in the northwest, Sichuan in the southeast, and Tibet Autonomous Region in the southwest. Most of Qinghai is part of the traditional provinces of Kham and Amdo of Tibet. It is the birthplace and home to many influential Tibetan figures in history, including Tsongkapa (the greatest commentator in the history of Buddhism) and many of the Dalai Lamas. The Yellow River (Huang He) originates in the middle of the province, while the Yangtze and Mekong have their sources in the southern part.Qinghai's culture is heavily influenced by Tibet, given the close proximity as well as a shared history.
The mountainous province of Guizhou has amazing natural beauty - lush mountains, mystical limestone caves and awesome waterfalls, the Zhijin Caves as well as the largest waterfall in Asia, the Huangguoshu Falls. This wealth of nature however belies the poverty of the province - Guizhou remains one of the poorest and most remote provinces in China. Guizhou is also known for its mild but wet weather. Guizhou is also known for cultural diversity and there are more than 30 minority groups in the province. Because much of the province has not been heavily influenced by the effects of modernization and globalization, visitors have the unique opportunity to glimpse into a traditional lifestyle that has been lost in many of China’s larger cities.
Lying in northwestern China, the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region was referred to as the Western Region in ancient times. It has an area roughly about one-sixth of the total territory of China. Xinjiang is the largest and has the longest boundary line among China's provinces and autonomous regions. It shares long frontier with Mongolia in the northeast; Russia, Kazakhstan, Kirghiszstan, and Tadzhikistan in the west; and Afghanistan, Pakistan, and India in the southwest. Xinjiang is divided into two basins by Mount Tianshan, Dzungarian Basin in the north and Tarim Basin in the south. The Karakorum highway links Islamabad, Pakistan with Kashgar over the Khunjerab Pass. The ethic groups of the Uygur, Han, Kazak, Hui, Mongolian, Kirgiz, Tajik, Xibe, Ozbek, Manchu, Daur, Tartar and Russian live in Xinjiang for generations.
